Back Pain

Back pain can affect at any age mainly in adult age. Back pain is associated with bones, muscles and ligaments. Lower back pain may be linked to the bony lumbar spine, disc between the vertebrae, spinal cord and nerves, lower back muscles, abdomen, pelvic internal organ. Upper back pain may be occurring due to disorders of the aorta, tumors in chest and spine inflammation.
Causes of Back Pain:
Human body is composed by muscles, ligaments, tendons, disks and bones- problems with any of these part may cause back pain. Some of the causes are as follows:
Strain: Improper or heavy material lifting and abrupt and awkward movement can lead to strain in muscles and ligaments.
Structural problems
Ruptured Disks: If the disks are ruptured there will be more pressure on a nerve, resulting back pain.
Bulging Disks: As a result of more pressure on nerve
Sciatica: This is a intense pain travels through the buttock and down the back of leg.
Arthritis: Osteoarthritis patients are experienced with back pain. Sometimes they are suffered by osteoporosis also
Other Causes:
Spine infection
Infection in pelvic bladder, kidney
Spine cancer
Cauda Equina Syndrome
Sleeping disorder due to bad posture or bad mattress
Posture is one of the factors of back pain like pushing, pulling, carrying or lifting something, coughing, standing long period, working in front of computer for long period, muscle tension, long driving taking without break
Symptoms:
Following symptoms are accompanied with back pain
Fever
Body weight loss
Swelling and inflammation on back
Downwards pain in leg
Difficulties in urination
Numbness in genital and anus area
Diagnosis:
Back pain can be diagnosis by X-Rays, MRI or CT scan, Bone scan or EMG. Along with blood test is prescribed by doctor if any infection suspected.
Treatment :
Generally back pain is two types: 1. Acute & 2. Chronic
There are some home-based treatment procedures like message, stretching, apply heat on the painful area
Doctors recommended the following:
Medication
Physical therapy
Cortisone injection
CBT for chronic back pain.
Sometimes in chronic stage surgery may be necessary for relief
Precaution:
Regular exercise helps to keep body strength and body weight. Exercise should be done under expert’s supervision for proper result.
Avoiding smoking which will help to reduce back pain.
Try to keep good posture while standing, sitting or lifting object.
For precautionary purpose use flat shoes and supportive mattress which keep straight our spine and maintain weight of shoulder and buttocks
